The quick passing game provides your offense consistency and efficiency. Of all of the basic ways of attacking a defense, the two and three step passing game is the most consistent and efficient. In other words, if you did a study of your plays in terms of the percentage of the time they gain 4 yards or more, quick passes would rank at or near the top of your list. If you practice and drill the quick passing scheme properly, many of these basic quick routes can easily have a completion percentage of 70% or better. In a statistical sense, this success also yields a greater average of yards per play. Quick passes are dependable yardage gainers and chain movers.
The quick passing game helps you to create balance in your offense. One of the best weapons an offense can have is balance that forces a base approach on the part of the defense. Conversely, a lack of balance can make operating effectively very difficult. For example, many defenses today like to consistently play eight-man fronts on first down and show little concern for the pass. The quick passing game gives the offensive coach a different type of tool he can feel just as sure about that provides balance for his team. This balance demands a certain type of adjustment from defensive coaches that helps the running game, because the run specific defensive structures are no longer being called.
